New Technology - Hard Machining
Doutt Tool offers advanced technology to replace EDM and traditional form grinding with milling and turning operations on pre-hardened tool steels ranging up to 66 HRc.
Milling replaces EDM sinking, saving electrode machining and setup costs.
Turning replaces conventional grinding, production is up to five times faster.
The machine>harden>grind production cycle is broken, high stock removal rates and a high quality finish means that time consuming edm and grinding processes are reduced or eliminated on steel tooling.

We can often help by suggesting alternative manufacturing methods to suit your requirements.
For example, we prototyped various shapes to help solve a die packing problem, one version solved the problem and also increased tool life by 300% between regrinds, then we tweaked the locking feature to give three more regrinds on the life of the part.
Of course we sold fewer dies, but that's how we like it when it's Doutt's name on the tooling.
The improvements generated more new business for us - so that was a good result all round.
In another instance, during a brief discussion with the designer, we identified one excessively tight tolerance on a component. A minor change of .0002" to .002" slashed thirty percent off the price he expected to pay without compromising the design quality.
